BA990 BlastAdhesive Soundproofing Adhesive
Strong Permanent Adhesive — Bonds MLV to Any Surface
BA990 BlastAdhesive is the professional adhesive for installing BlastBlock mass loaded vinyl to any construction surface including concrete, steel, wood, gypsum, and plastic. Permanently flexible, waterproof, and non-flammable. Full cure in 7 days.
Achieving the full STC rating of mass loaded vinyl depends critically on how it is attached to the substrate. MLV that is insufficiently bonded — relying on staples, nails, or inadequate adhesive — can develop gaps and delamination over time, creating air paths that defeat the acoustic barrier. Even small areas of incomplete contact allow sound to bypass the barrier, reducing real-world performance well below the rated laboratory STC. BA990 BlastAdhesive is formulated specifically for acoustic installation. Its permanently flexible bond accommodates thermal expansion and building movement without losing adhesion — a critical advantage over rigid adhesives that crack and separate. The very strong bond strength ensures the heavy mass loaded vinyl (5 to 10 kg/m² depending on product) remains securely attached to walls, ceilings, floors, and pipes without sagging or peeling over time. The waterproof formula makes BA990 suitable for both interior and moisture-prone environments including basements, crawl spaces, bathrooms, and marine applications. Non-flammable formulation ensures it is safe for use in fire-rated wall assemblies and with fire-rated materials including BB830FR.

Applications
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need BA990 adhesive or can I use mechanical fasteners for MLV installation?
BA990 adhesive is strongly recommended over mechanical fasteners for most MLV installations. Staples and screws create point loads on the MLV, can cause tearing of the material over time, and leave small air gaps around each fastener that reduce acoustic performance. BA990 creates a continuous bond that seals the MLV completely to the substrate, maximizing acoustic performance and ensuring long-term adhesion without material damage.
Can BA990 be used for ceiling MLV installation?
Yes. BA990 has excellent slump resistance specifically to support ceiling and overhead MLV applications. The adhesive is applied in a zigzag pattern covering approximately 70% of the surface. For heavy BB830LF (10 kg/m²) ceiling installations, additional temporary mechanical support may be used during the initial cure period. BA990 reaches adequate strength within 24 hours for most ceiling applications, with full cure at 7 days.
Is BA990 waterproof and suitable for basements and marine use?
Yes. BA990 is waterproof once fully cured, making it suitable for basements, crawl spaces, bathrooms, marine vessel interiors, and any moisture-prone environment. It maintains adhesion and flexibility even in high-humidity conditions. For marine applications combining BB460 with BA990, the waterproof bond ensures long-term performance in the harsh saltwater environment.
