BlastBlock Product Recommendation Quiz
Answer a few questions about your soundproofing project and receive a personalized BlastBlock product recommendation. The quiz covers your project type, the noise source, your priority level (maximum performance or value), and any special requirements such as fire code compliance or low-frequency bass blocking.
Selecting the wrong acoustic product is one of the most common — and costly — soundproofing mistakes. Standard mass loaded vinyl works well for airborne speech and music noise. But if your problem is bass, machinery vibration, or a project that requires fire-rated materials, you need a different variant. The quiz guides you to the right starting point for your specific situation in under two minutes.
Not sure which BlastBlock product to specify? The interactive quiz considers the complete BlastBlock range: BB830 for standard applications, BB830FR for fire-code-compliant commercial and hospitality projects, BB830LF for challenging low-frequency bass problems, and BB460 for automotive and marine vibration dampening. After completing the quiz, you can request free samples or contact our acoustic team to confirm the recommendation for your specific project.
Quick Reference — Which Product Do You Need?
-
BB830 — Acoustic Optimized MLV
Best for: General residential and commercial soundproofing. Walls, ceilings, floors, HVAC duct wrapping, and pipe encapsulation. STC 32 dB, 3mm, 5 kg/m², ASTM E90 tested. The correct starting point for most apartment, home, and office soundproofing projects. -
BB830FR — Fire-Rated Acoustic MLV
Best for: Commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, aged care facilities, and any project where building codes require fire-rated construction materials. STC 28 dB, AS/NZS 1530.3 certified. ASTM fire test reports available on request. Required by most commercial fire codes. -
BB830LF — Low Frequency Heavy-Duty MLV
Best for: Home theaters with subwoofers, professional recording studios, music practice rooms, drum rooms, industrial machinery enclosures, generator rooms, and nightclubs — any application where deep bass frequencies are the primary acoustic problem. Rw 32 dB, 5mm, 10 kg/m². Choose this when standard MLV has failed to contain bass. -
BB460 — Sound & Vibration Dampening Material
Best for: Automotive sound deadening (door panels, floor pan, firewall), marine vessel engine room and hull panel treatment, HVAC ductwork, and industrial equipment panels where vibration dampening is as important as airborne sound blocking. Dual-function honeycomb aluminum construction. Lighter than equivalent MLV for weight-sensitive applications. -
Installation System — BA650, BA890, BA990
Every complete soundproofing installation requires: BA650 putty pads for electrical penetrations (STC 62+), BA890 sealant for all perimeter gaps and joints, and BA990 adhesive for bonding MLV to any surface. These accessories complete the acoustic system and prevent the flanking paths that defeat the main barrier.
Common Project Scenarios
- Apartment / neighbor noise: BB830 on walls and ceiling, BA890 at all perimeters, BA650 at outlets — typical outcome STC 45+
- Hotel construction: BB830FR in all party walls and corridor ceilings for fire-code-compliant acoustic isolation — typical outcome STC 48+
- Home theater with subwoofer: BB830LF in all six room surfaces — typical outcome: bass containment sufficient for neighbors not to be disturbed
- Car sound deadening: BB460 on door skins and floor pan, BB830 in trunk — significant road and engine noise reduction
- Recording studio: BB830 or BB830LF in double-leaf stud wall assemblies with resilient channel — typical outcome STC 55–65
- Industrial machinery: BB830LF on all enclosure panels, BA890 at all joints — typically 15–25 dB noise reduction at operator position
