BA650 BlastPutty Acoustic Putty Pads
STC 62+ Acoustic Putty Pads — UL Certified Fire Stop
BA650 BlastPutty is a flexible soundproofing putty pad for wrapping electrical outlets and through-penetrations in acoustic assemblies. STC 62+ rating (ASTM C919 & E90 tested). UL Certified fire stop up to 4 hours. Self-adhering with release paper for easy installation.
The weakest link in any soundproofing system is the penetration — the electrical outlet, switch box, pipe chase, or cable opening that creates a direct air path through an otherwise complete acoustic barrier. A standard electrical outlet box installed back-to-back with the box in the adjacent room can reduce the STC of an STC 50 wall to effectively STC 30 or below. BA650 BlastPutty Pads solve this problem completely. The self-adhering putty wraps around electrical boxes and outlet penetrations, sealing all gaps between the box and the acoustic assembly. The material is flexible and easy to mold around any box shape, ensuring complete coverage with no gaps. ASTM C919 and E90 testing confirms STC 62+ performance — higher than most wall assemblies, meaning the putty pads are never the weakest link. The UL Certified fire stop rating of up to 4 hours ensures that adding acoustic performance to penetrations does not compromise the fire rating of the wall assembly — a critical compliance point for commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, and schools where fire-rated wall assemblies are required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need acoustic putty pads if I already have MLV on my walls?
Electrical boxes and outlets create direct penetrations through the wall that bypass your MLV barrier. Sound travels through air gaps around outlet boxes just as easily as through an open hole. Without acoustic putty pads, the STC performance of your entire wall assembly is compromised at every outlet location. BA650 putty pads maintain the STC rating at these critical points, ensuring your complete wall assembly performs as designed.
Are BA650 putty pads required for fire-rated wall assemblies?
In fire-rated wall assemblies, electrical penetrations must be treated to maintain the fire rating. BA650's UL Certified fire stop rating of up to 4 hours (ASTM E814/UL 1479) satisfies this requirement. Many building inspectors and fire marshals will require evidence of penetration treatment in fire-rated assemblies. BA650 provides both the acoustic and fire protection in a single product.
How are BA650 putty pads installed?
Installation is straightforward. Remove the release paper from both sides of the BA650 pad. Wrap the pad around the electrical box before it is installed in the wall, or mold it around the box after installation. Press firmly to ensure full contact. The self-adhesive properties hold the pad in place during wall closure. No special tools are required. Installation typically takes under two minutes per outlet.
